Diorama - Child of Entertainment

Mensaje por elerac »

Hi all, sorry for not speaking Spanish.

Here's a song I recently tried to get the notes out of. Its my first attempt
and probably not quite correct, but I did what I could with my amateur ear. ^^
I'll leave the song here in case anybody is interested to try it out. I'd be
happy to hear any comments.

Video on tube,

The song was transcribed with Performous Composer.
I left the video out as the attachment upload always
seemed to fail if it was there. :/

Edit: I uploaded a new v2 that should load with YASS along 1.7

ps. thanks to everybody for all the stuff on the site!

Hi, elerac,
sorry for delay in answer.

The song is almost toned correctly but the syncro is must be improve, but... we don't use Composer and I do not know the use of this tool.

I can help you to correct the song for publish it in UltraStar España but I work with YASS. All my comments will be based on YASS.

I don't know whether we will be able to understand, but do you want to try it?

Regards.

Hi jmfb, thanks for the interest. :)

I could try to improve it with YASS as the file should be loadable with that just as well, but I haven't tried after my initial problems with it. But if you have some improvement ideas using that software I can give it another try.

Remove the first tag.
Yass can't read it.

Hi, again,
forget my last answer, sorry, I was confused with another song.

Not remove the first tag (#TITLE:Child of Entertainment).

But is necessary to make a change in the TXT for to do that Yass be capable to find the mp3 correctly. You must remove the letter "t" of word "Entertaintment" in #MP3, #VIDEO, #COVER and #BACKGROUND tags.

I am not clear what your problem with Yass exactly (http://www.yass-along.com/downloads.html).

Can you open the song with Yass, enter in editor and play the song (with [P] key)?

Regards.

Hi jmfb, sorry for the late reply and thanks for the help!
Silly typos. I guess Performous Composer didn't care about
the filenames.

I replaced the zip with the typos fixed.

[ rant:

My problems with YASS are about usability, its interface is just very original and doesn't
resemble the software I'm familiar with such as cubase or cakewalk, making it very tiresome
to try to work with it. I guess I'm too old to learn! Basically what I'd like most is to have
X and Y zoom settings independent of current selection, and free movement around the song with
X and Y scrollbars. So I could set a zoom, it'd stay fixed, and press play would scroll the
song from right to left during playing. This is how your normal midi 'bars' type editor
works in most audio software, and also how performous works compared to (at least old
versions of) ultrastar: it shows a continuous, scrolling stream of notes (bars) giving you
a better intuition of the relative pitch change from verse to another, and not one of
swapping 'pages', making it difficult to anticipate anything before the page swap.
So basically my ideal editor is like one that resembles the 'scrolling' play experience,
only I can pause it at any point and drag the notes around, stretching, adding and
splitting. Performous composer is more like that, but sadly also quite buggy. :/

Here's a pic showing how the interface is in cubase:

http://i.imgur.com/95zgRp4.png

You can see the 2 zoom scalers, 2 visualization position scrollbars, play cursor, etc. , I think even Powerpoint works like that...

I know this is not the place, but I also noticed the following on YASS 1.7.1,

- editing lyrics often ruins the existing notes. it can change the 'line' automatically and what note is associated with what lyric.
- making a selection changes the display scale
- adding a note is difficult, since it can ruin all the notes that follow?
- 'enable ticks' setting is not saved across runs
- clicking on a note to select it sometimes splits it
- when selecting a group of notes and trying to change the pitch of the group, sometimes it refuses to do this
- there are occasional spells of lag when selecting menus and nothing is playing
- often when starting the playback, there is a huge latency before the cursor starts moving.
- increasing bpm e.g. from 180 to 300 ruins the placement of all the notes
- lyrics window disappears when maximizing window
- enabling 'waveform' in debug menu caused yass to freeze.

so to put it short, editing songs with YASS is quite hard for me
as a lot of the time something blows up (scale, notes, ...) without me
intending to do that and I go AAAAARGH. :)

]

Thanks again. :)

Hi again, elerac,
I think I have taken a lot of time to understand your reply completely (my English is very bad and my writing is worse) but I'll try to give you an answer.

I'm writing it, first in Spanish, because I don't know the English translation reproduces what I mean. If you know someone who understands the Spanish maybe he can translate it better than me.

Of course, YASS is not a bugless nor perfect tool. I also had many problems with structure of the song lyrics at my beginnings, but with use you learn to better use the tool.

I don't have Composer for Windows nor, like you, time to learn to use it, so all I can think we can do, to publish your song, is that I will indicate corrections that you make in the song, you make with the Composer and you go putting the file with the changes. I use this file with changes, in Yass, to make more comments to perform the following corrections, and so on until we reach the end of the song.

That is, you work with Composer and I work with YASS.

Any corrections should be performed every syllable length, some pitches and possible changes in pitch that we can locate.

The length of each syllable should be only for the time that the vowel of that syllable is heard. To do this we use in YASS the Auxiliary Note (Nota Auxiliar - NA) with which detect the beginning and end of each syllable. I don't know whether the same can be done with Composer. I don't use the mouse to almost nothing, virtually all actions in YASS I performed with the keyboard, as well I have greater accuracy and avoid accidental unwanted movements.

Synchronizing the notes will reduce the length by which the vowel is heard. Therefore, in each note seek hear the vowel. When only the consonant is heard we continue moving the NA until hear the vowel (for the beginning of the notes) or until it ceases to hear the vowel (for end of the notes).

You can watch the video that explains this technique, although it is in Spanish, you can see the technique visually.

In UltraStar we use MixMeister BPM Analyzer tool to calculate the BPM correctly. You can download it in the Downloads section on the website of UltraStar. Try to use MixMeister to calculate the BPM of your next songs.

MixMeister return a value of 124.88 (round to 125) for this MP3 file. The value of the UltraStar songs should be between 200 and 400. We will double the value calculated by MixMeister so that it is within range, the new value is 250. But if we change the actual BPM we need to make a new complete resynchronization of the entire song.

Because this, we'll let the value 180 for the BPM. Not change, please.

The words should be divided in syllables correctly. We can consult this in http://www.thefreedictionary.com/.

For example:

Hurry --> Hur-ry
moment's --> mo-ment's

Applying the NA technique to L1:
  1. Edit song with Yass.
  2. I stood at the first line.
  3. I'm going to the last syllable of the line. [End]
  4. I create the NA. [Ctrl] + [Enter]
  5. I usually take the NA down two or three lines below the syllable. [Ctrl] + [Down arrow]
  6. And adjust its length to 4 or 5 positions stretching by the left. [Ctrl] + [ Left Arrow] extends to the left and [Ctrl] + [ Right Arrow] shortens the left.
  7. I move the NA at the beginning of the line, before the first syllable. [Shift] + [ Left Arrow]
  8. I approached the NA at the start of the first syllable. [Shift] + [ Right Arrow]
  9. I hear the NA. [Spacebar]
  10. If I only hear consonant, or no letter hear, not enough for me, move my NA a squares to the right ([Shift] + [ Right arrow]), and I return to hear ([Spacebar]). Until recognizable vowel is heard.
  11. Move the cursor to the syllable of which the start I have located. Here, we are with the first syllable, press once [ Right arrow]. For other syllables [ Left arrow] or [ Right arrow] several times (this depends on what syllable we are synchronizing, whether they are at the beginning, end or in the middle of the line).
  12. Shorten or extend the syllable so many squares on the left as needed. [Ctrl] + [ Right Arrow] shortens the left, and [Ctrl] + [ Left Arrow] extends to the left.
  13. I return to the NA. [End], remember that I created in the last syllable of the line, [End] key always brings me to the NA.
  14. Adjusted for the right of the syllable, moving the NA until the end of the syllable ([Shift] + [ Right arrow]) and hear ([Spacebar]) until they no longer heard the vowel that has the syllable. Right up there the length of the syllable.
  15. I move the cursor to the syllable. [ Left arrow] or [ Right arrow] to the syllable.
  16. Shorten by the right ([Alt] + [ Left arrow]) or extend on the right ([Alt] + [ Right arrow]).
  17. Go back to NA again. [End]
  18. Adjusted the rest of syllables of the line with the same technique.
  19. At the end of the line delete the NA. [Del] (Sometimes not erased and must first select it with the mouse and then delete [Del]).
  20. Going to the next line. [Down arrow]
  21. Repeat from step 3.
This is how the notes of the three first lines before synchronizing are shown:
L1_to_L3_before.jpg
And that's how they are after synchro (note that the notes are shorter):
L1_to_L3_after.jpg
Open the error window ("View" -> "View Errors ..." or click the button to the right of the piano button, is now in red color), select the error "Non-zero First Beat "and click on the button "Correct".

Select the first "Uncommon page break" error and click the "Correct All" button. We can close the error window.
Errors.jpg
Modify the file tag and try to synchronize lines 4, 5 and 6 with the technique of the NA with the Composer, if you can apply this technique.
When you have corrected put the YASS text version of the TXT file with [ code][ /code] tags with the message editor, as I do below, in your next message. It needless you attach the MP3 file, we will use the one you used to make the song, please, do not change it for another.

Others words division:

varie-ty --> var-ri-e-ty
cont-rol --> con-trol
giving --> giv-ing
gloo-my --> gloom-y
de-nial --> de-ni-al
mea-ning --> mean-ing
ans-wer --> an-swer

I wait for your modifications.
Regards.

Note: Use this text for your corrections.

Edited: Edit for correct the visualization.
